Challenges

AB Produce are a vegetable processing company. Their process produces a mixture of water, vegetable peelings, starch and mud as waste - which has to be stored in lagoons. Even with some waste being used as compost on farmland AB Produce required a more cost-effective solution to their waste-management.

Solution

An investment in an anaerobic digestion system to produce bio-gas processes the waste to produce low cost fuel - a much more efficient waste solution. Anaerobic digestion is a process by which microorganisms break down organic, biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen. The process produces a bio-gas, comprised of methane, carbon dioxide and other, trace gases. This bio-gas can be burnt as fuel in combined heat and power gas engines to produce electricity - or even upgraded to natural gas-quality and fed directly into the gas grid.

Results

JDS Electrical are working to install a new 11KV HV to LV substation, new mains panel small power and LED lighting in the new buildings and mains cables to the gas engines. The contract is expected to take 8 to 12 months.

Challenges

After being approached by a long-time contact at Thorlux Lighting we were asked to project-manage and carry out the installation of new LED high-bay lighting at Heller for their workshop and storage areas. However we could not shut down work during the day.

Solution

Instead we performed the installation over 10 consecutive nights. The whole area we were working on had to be protected so we covered the storage areas, workshop and, importantly, the sensitive machinery with dust-protection before starting work. On completion of the night’s work these dust sheets were removed and the working area cleaned and vacuumed in preparation for the next working day. The project was completed on time and with no disruption at all to the client.

Results

Feedback has been very positive from Heller. LED lighting has reduced Heller's electricity consumption as it is more efficient when compared to old high-bay light fittings, with far less electricity is wasted as heat.

Challenges

Initially approached by Utilatas — a contractor for a well known and well respected international mobile phone service provider — we were asked to install a compact energy metering system from Socomec called Digiware.

Solution

We liaised with both companies to produce and provide the meter enclosures and the metering equipment. We then installed the meter equipment and the all-important data loggers. All this was achieved causing no disruption to the clients operation.

Results

All this equipment is networked, the information collated and transmitted to a data monitoring centre, accessible through cloud-based software for analysis and reporting. The purpose of this data monitoring is to understand one’s energy needs and use this information to reduce power consumption and so minimise the energy carbon footprint.

Challenges

Our regular customer St Chad's Cathedral asked us to design and install a temporary lighting system that could turn the front and sides of the cathedral Red. This is for an event called Red Wednesday which is on 27th November 2017 which will show solidarity for Christians persecuted around the world.

Solution

We installed red gels on the side of LED floodlights and worked with a events company to design and install the red LED lights on the front of the cathedral. We used a boom to install the lights during the day and waited until dark to position them.

Results

The impact was instant and exactly what the cathedral wanted. We only had to make minor adjustments to the position of the lights. People walking past were asking the priest what was going on and taking photos. The comment from the priest was “that is exactly the reaction we want”.
